Today I lost the best friend I ever had to kidney failure. Squirrel has been beating the odds since the day my husband found him dangling by the bumper of a moving truck on the 101 at 3 weeks old, to 2 years ago when he was diagnosed and given only a few months to live. I’m thankful for every moment I’ve had with him. When we first met, I was a full on dog person. It was NOT love at first sight. I used to wake up in the morning with scratches on my back from Squirrel, for no reason at all. But one day when we were alone I reached out to pet him and heard that GLORIOUS purr and that was it. I was hooked. Over the next few years he went from a cat that would bite you randomly, to my straight up best friend who’d be waiting outside the shower to lick the water off my legs. Our bond transformed the both of us for the better. I am forever a crazy cat lady thanks to Squirrel. I am forever changed.
